This is where the real adventure begins…

The Great Western Woodlands

The internationally significant Great Western woodlands covers almost 16 million hectares, roughly the size of England. This area is the largest area of intact Mediterranean woodland on Earth. It has just enough rainfall that the trees can survive. More than a fifth of Australia’s native plant species (over 3000) are found here. It is a refuge for many native animals.

This area is special. It seems to remain like that because hardly anyone knows. There are many roads through it, apart from dirt roads.

With our Toyota hybrid RAV we drove through and enjoyed the uniqueness of this area. It is immensely peaceful and quiet. You feel very far away from the rest of the world.
