Wildflowers of Western Australia

There is parts of Australia that do not enjoy much rain, there are often years without any rain at all. But when there is rain, it delivers a cacophony of amazing colours and fields of flowers in this otherwise bone-dry world. Springtime is the best time to enjoy this fiesta of flowers.

A bonanza of colours.
A miracle growing in the red dirt

West Australia has 12500 different native plants growing of which 60 percent is endemic and does not grow anywhere else in the world, not even in the rest of Australia. It is no wonder that a big part of this state is a biodiversity hotspot. This means that the we need to look after it very well.

Compare

This is the difference between hardly any rain and rain over the whole year. In the left photo the flowers are the same. Because there was next to no rain that year the growth of the flowers was stunted and remained very small in size. Both pictures were taken in the same area in august, only in different years.
